Fibrenamics partner presents innovative prototype at JEC World 2016

The Innovation Pole in Polymer Engineering at the University of Minho (PIEP) presented at JEC World 2016 from 8 to 10 March, in Paris, the innovative demonstrator of a horizontal structure of a car seat, entirely produced in thermoplastic composites in a single process injection. The prototype presented was selected by JEC World 2016 to be among the 20 most innovative international solutions to be exhibited at the “AUTO Planet”.

Created for the first time this year, the “AUTO Planet” aimed to highlight the incredible change that is taking place in the field of materials, especially in the use of composites in the automotive industry, through the presentation of innovative and iconic products developed internationally.

As PIEP was the first national entity to exhibit in the “Planet” area of JEC, alongside other innovations presented by Lamborghini, Faurecia and BMW, this presence allowed to reinforce the positioning of PIEP as a reference entity in the development of innovative solutions in the field of polymers and composites.

The demonstrator presented by PIEP was developed under the Hybridtec project, carried out in co-promotion with the national companies DT2, Mptool and The Rapid Manufacturing Center DT2, and supported by the National Strategic Reference Framework, QREN. The innovative solution was fully developed in Portugal and is characterized by high integration (reduction in the number of components), weight reduction (41%) and reduction in production costs (13%), compared to metallic solutions, opening from this new development opportunities that extend beyond the automotive sector.
