"From Waste to the Market" in debate at UMinho

Next Wednesday, May 27, the Shared Waste Solutions Platform (SWS) will hold the workshop “From Waste to the Market”, in partnership with the Waste Recovery Center (CVR) of the University of Minho (UMinho), in Guimarães , where the event will take place, throughout the afternoon. Participation is free, but requires prior registration.

The use of waste for the production of new / other products is a growing concern, which is why the first afternoon panel addresses the theme “The valorization of the waste management hierarchy”, promoted by Rui Berkemeier of Quercus. This is followed by the intervention of Isabel Loureiro, who, as part of the Guimarães Green European Capital 2020 application, will make a presentation on the problem “Can a city be green?”. After the presentation of the results of the SWS Platform by its promoters - ITeCons, TecMinho and UAveiro - there is a panel on opportunities in waste recovery, with the presence of some entities from the National Scientific and Technological System (SCTN).

SYS contest winners present ideas

The winners of the “Share Your Solution” ideas contest will have the opportunity to present their product design ideas based on waste and receive the respective prizes, sponsored by Lipor and Sociedade Ponto Verde. Remember that this contest was looking for ideas for the recovery of waste through product design, whose proposals are now being evaluated by the jury.

To close the activity, we will have a panel dedicated to the success stories of products incorporating waste that are on the market, where we will hear the testimony of some companies, such as, for example, Amorim Isolamentos and Soporcel.

Promoted by ITeCons of the University of Coimbra, TecMinho, through Fibrenamics, and by the University of Aveiro, the SWS platform is a project to stimulate and add value to sustainable waste, which has about 50 entities registered on its online platform.
