Multiterry project is successful in Germany

The International Fibrenamics platform of the University of Minho and the Mundotêxtil company successfully carried out the Multiterry project - Interactive and Multifunctional Felps. The prototypes (some of them) were presented at Heimtextil 2016 - International Trade Fair for Home and Contract Textiles, which took place in Frankfurt, Germany, from January 12th to 15th.

Confirmed interest in the “ideal place”

Ana Pinheiro says that "some prototypes of the Multiterry project were presented that had a very significant acceptance and interest by our customers". The administrator of Mundotêxtil was satisfied with the project, and is confident in the fruits that it will bring, not least because the positive feedback was collected in the right place: “being the largest international fair in the sector is the ideal place to feel the market, follow the evolution of our competitors, both at the product level and at the structural level and, mainly, to contact with existing and future customers ”. In fact, the strategic importance of this fair does not go unnoticed by anyone, and even the Minister of Economy, Manuel Caldeira Cabral, and the Secretary of State for Industry, João Vasconcelos, were present.

"The company is considering the communication of new products to customers through specific means within the scope of marketing actions and through material that accompanies the product", says Ana Pinheiro, in exclusive statements to the Fibrenamics platform.

Innovative felts in 7 concepts and 45 prototypes

Multiterry aimed to develop multifunctional felps with the ability to interact and stimulate in two aspects - educational and leisure - whose primary target audience was children and young people. The multidisciplinary team that was created exceeded all initial expectations by producing 45 prototypes with 7 different concepts and different levels of interactivity! Two product lines were developed: one for bathing and one for the beach. In the bath line, towels were developed with increased absorption capacity (36 prototypes), writing towels (2 prototypes), glove with color change with temperature (3 prototypes), carpet with games to stimulate daily hygiene (1 prototype). In the beach line, three prototypes were developed: a towel with color change with UV rays, a towel with UV sensor and a towel with solar charger.

For Juliana Cruz, Fibrenamics researcher who led the project, “the balance was extremely positive”. It points out, however, some difficulties that the team has been facing, namely in terms of incorporating microelectronics in felts, but underlines that the perfect understanding between the two teams - Fibrenamics and Mundotêxtil - allowed “to overcome all these difficulties”.

A true partnership: everyone wins!

The success of the Multiterry project left everyone with a sense of accomplishment. In fact, on the Fibrenamics side, Juliana Cruz points out that “only with innovation and development is it possible to create truly differentiating products”, and that Multiterry's success was due to the “symbiosis of technical knowledge of the felts by Mundotêxtil and technical knowledge -science of Fibrenamics fiber-based materials ”.

Ana Pinheiro agrees, stressing that “the partnership with Fibrenamics has allowed MT to increase its R&D skills and acquire know-how in new areas, which will allow the development of new products, with the expectation of increasing the company's response to new requests and new customers ”.
