AutoEcoMat

Development of multifunctional ecological materials for vehicle components from recycling and recovery of industrial waste

The AutoEcoMat project has the main objective the development of multifunctional ecological materials for vehicle components based on the recycling and recovery of industrial waste.
The main market trends are currently well identified: minimization of waste generation, recycling and recovery of waste in industrial symbiosis, weight reduction and the development of multifunctional materials.

Goals
And it is thinking about valuing internal industrial waste, generated along its procedural diagram, that the company Borgstena wants to act. Most of the waste is based on polyester or polyethylene terephthalate (PET), in the form of yarns, fabrics, knits or textiles laminated with polyurethane foams.

Innovation
From the project implementarion, two product lines will be obtained:
● “Basic” line essentially characterized by the reuse and incorporation of polyester and polyurethane waste;
● “Select” line as an upgrade from the previous line due to the addition of complementary properties, at the mechanical and / or thermal level, a factor that will allow to promote a clear differentiation of its products, increasing its added value.
The developed products will be applied in the design of automotive interior components, such as seats, pillars and overheads.
This approach will allow the company to be able to carry out the development of products with high added value, consolidating its contribution to the value chain of the transport sector through the incorporation of science and technology in its products.

Datasheet
The projet AutoEcoMat (Project POCI-01-0247-FEDER-045249) is promoted by Borgstena Textile Portugal, Unipessoal LDA.
