Balistic_composite_panel

Development of ballistic panels, from composites with gradient properties, for collective passenger transport vehicles.

It is innovation that moves the industry and Fibrauto (manufacture of components in fiberglass and composite materials for various sectors of activity, with a special focus on the automotive, rail and urban sectors) follows the motto. The company identified three needs with the market:
● Development of ballistic composites;
● Weight reduction of components;
● Increased mobility.
Based on the needs presented, it was defined that the Balistic_composite_panel project would have as main objective the development of a composite with gradient properties for ballistic protection, to be used in vehicle components, namely in buses, trains and boats.

Goals
The project already has specific objectives:
● Development of a composite with a gradient of properties with different elasticity modules based on the alteration of the crystallinity of the molecular structure of polyethylene polymers;
● Development of a composite with a gradient of properties with structures with a high energy absorption capacity, from auxetic structures;
● Development of a composite with a gradient of properties from the angle ply;
● Development of a composite with the integration of the concepts previously presented, namely: Alteration of crystallinity; auxetics and angle ply.

Innovation
And foreseen technical and scientific advances:
● Development of ballistic composite materials with a mass reduction of about 20% for levels III and IV according to NIJ 0108.01;
● Development of high energy absorption composites based on the use of fibrous auxetic structures;
● Development of high energy absorption composites based on the use of fibrous structures oriented in the plane, recreating an angle ply concept;
● Development of a ballistic composite with a gradient of properties, combining the two previous technologies, in a single material and in a single production stage.
