Cov_Yarn

Development of active PPE based on multifunctional yarns

With the massive use of protective equipment due to the Covid-19 pandemic, there is a shortage of solutions on the market that can simultaneously meet the needs of active protection, the comfort provided to the user and the preservation of the environment.

Goals
Cov_Yarn aims to develop a new generation of active multifunctional yarns for use in reusable personal protective equipment, including masks and gowns, produced from knitwear and fabrics.

Innovation
The yarns are produced by short fiber spinning technologies functionalized with metal oxides, with antibacterial and antiviral capabilities. To guarantee multifunctionality by integrating comfort / performance, the fiber mixes to be incorporated in this yarn portfolio will also present active comfort, through the touch provided and the management of humidity.
The project aims to innovate by developing fibrous substrates normally used with a barrier function, to materialize a concept with active characteristics, instead of passive (traditional) PPE solutions.

Datasheet
The Cov_Yarn project (POCI-01-02B7-FEDER-057041) is promoted by the company Tearfil - Indústria Têxtil, S.A.
