The Lusitano Project aims to promote the reindustrialization of the national Textile and Clothing Industry (ITV), through the development from scratch of a project that allows bringing back to Europe a crucial part of the value chain of the textile and clothing industry, through R&D activities, Productive Innovation, Training and Internationalization, creating the ability to manufacture yarns from recycled and natural fibers, and subsequently new and innovative textile and clothing products with higher added value. It also intends to promote the competitive transformation of the sector through concerted R&D efforts of intelligent systems, aligned with the paradigms of Industry 4.0 and Internet of Things, and of effluent treatment and reuse systems, in order to drastically reduce the consumption of water resources. Finally, it is also intended to promote and disseminate its results, generating a contagion effect for other entities.

Specific goals

  • Development of ecological and functional filiform structures, from the recycling and valorization of textile fibrous residues;
  • Development of natural multi-scale filiform structures, from the extraction of fibrous materials from flax and hemp plants.
