Multigrade Mask

Development of a surgical mask with gradient properties, according to EN 14 683

Considering the global concerns surrounding COVID-19, the overload of health systems and a clear mismatch in the supply of protective equipment in the face of the respective demand, the present project aims to study and consequently develop an innovative surgical mask with gradient of properties.

Goals
It is intended to design a new mask, which ensures compliance with all the requirements of the standard EN 14683, but without using non-woven. Currently, nonwoven is the main raw material for this type of product, but it has a very limited availability and is highly dependent on Asian markets.

Innovation
The final solution must have functional properties with high added value and perfectly adaptable to the needs of healthcare professionals, namely a greater capacity for bacterial and hypoallergenic filtration, as well as greater ergonomics compared to market solutions.
The project also includes studies on new materials and new processes that allow conceptualizing and developing, in the end, a surgical mask, with a single fibrous structure that combines three layers with different functional zones, based on a highly efficient, fast production process. and with reduction of waste, in order to guarantee a response to the pressing needs of the market and, in particular, of health professionals.

Datasheet
The Multigrade Mask project (POCI-01-02B7-FEDER-053071) is promoted by Borgstena Textile Portugal, Unipessoal Lda.
