Innovative solutions development for filling walls rehabilitation.

This project, funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology and sponsored by the University of Minho, University of Porto and the University of Aveiro, aimed to develop an innovative solution based on fibrous materials.

Innovation
The project aims to contribute to advancing the knowledge on the behavior of BA gates filled with masonry walls and reinforcement systems, to stimulate the interest of the technical community and decision-makers to the advantages in reinforcing this type of buildings to minimize their seismic vulnerability.
Thus, the project’s main objectives were to:
● Develop innovative materials and reinforcement solutions;
● Developing solid concepts that help on the analysis of filler walls;
● Define the rules for the design of reinforcement filler walls.

Results
The main innovation in relation to state of the art consists in the development of novel materials based on fibers that can be applied on the surface of the walls to improve the behavior in the plane and out of plane.
