The result of two years of scientific research and technological development at Fibrenamics, the International Platform of the University of Minho, in partnership with the company Vital Marques Rodrigues is now ready to improve the health and comfort of those suffering from reduced mobility, chronic or terminal illnesses.
Results
In total, SENSE BED presents a range of four products, two of which are being patented, for the health and well-being area.
It is a biomimetic bed sores prevention surface that improves the distribution of the person's weight on the mattress, a flexible heating system for the thermal control of the patient in bed, and a pressure intensity monitoring system to assist caregivers bedridden to prevent bedsores. These three products work in isolation or give rise to a fourth product with all these features when integrated.
The SENSE BED product range was developed from fibrous materials and structures that act as sensors, providing comfort and assistance in identifying risks to the health of its users, such as pressure ulcers.
In addition to being smart, these new textiles are also easily incorporated into mattresses or as covers for them.
