Fibrenamics Green – Platform for the development of innovative products based on wastes organized two activities in the aim of the European Week for Waste Reduction of the municipality of Guimarães (Portugal).

“Fibrenamics Green: From Waste to Product” was the slogan that generated a Workshop and an Exhibition. The main objective was to introduce the process of valorization of wastes, as well as to demonstrate the benefits and opportunities of this resource when incorporated in the value chain of industries.

The Exhibition “Fibrenamics Green: From Waste to Product” took place at ACIG – the Industrial and Commercial Association of Guimarães, during the European Week of Waste Prevention, from 19 to 27 November 2016. Several citizens from Guimarães visited this initiative, as dozens of high school and technical-professional students.

The main objective was to introduce the process of valorization of wastes, as well as to demonstrate the benefits and opportunities of this resource when incorporated in the value chain of industries.

It was also held at ACIG the Workshop “From Waste to Product”. The event consisted of a presentation session of the project to introduce the concept of the Circular Economy to industries by means of the valorization of wastes through design and product engineering.

The business networking started with a presentation of the Fibrenamics Green project, introducing the theme of sustainability, recovery and valorization of waste. It was followed by the lecture ‘Circular Economy in Business Competitiveness’ by ISQ – Instituto de Soldadura e Qualidade in which Sílvia Vara presented the pillars of the Circular Economy and the importance of the methodology in the sustainable development of industries in the medium and long term.

Isabel Loureiro closed the Workshop session with the presentation of the guidelines and mission of the Candidature of Guimarães to European Green Capital 2020. A project that encourages good environmental practices and aims to make Guimarães more ecological and sustainable.

The project’s action plan results from the direct collaboration of Guimarães and the University of Minho, which aims to continuously improve 12 environmental reference areas that contribute to the sustainable development of the territory. According to Isabel Loureiro “multidisciplinarity, transversality and innovation through applied research are some of the characteristics of the actions that are being implemented in a territorial context, and are also the result of the synergies with research centers which we are collaborating for this application”.

A project that encourages good environmental practices and aims to make Guimarães more ecological and sustainable.
