Fibrenamics, the international R&D platform from the University of Minho, brings together world experts in sustainable materials at the 2nd edition of the Fibrenamics’ International Workshop, which will take place on the 3rd of June. With the theme "Shaping the Future with Sustainable Materials - Opportunities after the Pandemic", this workshop will take place in digital format and participation is free.

Sustainable materials are a resource of excellence and have once again attracted the attention of the scientific community and industry, at a time when studies point to a slower and more conscious consumption in the light of the world wide public health emergency.

In this sense, and in order to understand the opportunities that these materials reserve for the future of society, this workshop will bring together researchers, teachers, technicians and entrepreneurs, giving the opportunity to all participants to interact with the speakers and ask questions about their business or activity.

“The current COVID19 pandemic has reinforced the importance of a more sustainable development, in harmony with nature, respecting it, preserving it and, above all, learning from it. In 2019, we brought together 150 academics and entrepreneurs to talk about innovation opportunities based on natural fibers, but this year, and due to the situation we face, we realize that it is a pressing issue ”, explains Raul Fangueiro, Fibrenamics’ Coordinator. “These materials are of particular importance because they come from renewable sources and biodegrade at the end of the life cycle, with extremely low environmental impact”, reinforces the professor at the University of Minho.

The event will take place throughout the 3rd of June, between 9.30 am and 4 pm (Lisbon Timezone UTC +1) and the official language will be English.
