CEP-UNIFORMS

Multi-functional clothing incorporating comfort/ ergonomy/ protection

This R&D project, sponsored by AFF in collaboration with Fibrenamics - University of Minho, aimed to carry out research and development activities that could achieve the necessary knowledge to create a multilayer structure in an innovative weft knitted fabric, designed to perform various functions. Thus, it aimed the development of two functional layers products:
● Layer in contact with the skin: providing comfort through thermoregulation, moisture management, breathability, among other relevant properties;
● Outer layer: protection against cutting and/or puncture, using auxetic knitted structures in combination with high tenacity fibrous materials.

Results
The project has developed a prototype of a sweater with a weft knitted based structure with cut and puncture resistance properties. The sweater meets specific standard EN388 that define the regulations for materials with resistance to cutting and puncture properties.

Datasheet
The project CEP (NSRF Project No. 2014/38320), sponsored by AFF (A. Ferreira & Sons, SA, Portugal), is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (FEDER) through the National Strategic Reference Framework (QREN).
