The University of Minho had the best result ever of a Portuguese institution in the “UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2017”, which assesses the environmental sustainability indexes of academies around the world. UMinho emerges as the first in the country, second in the Iberian Peninsula, 23rd in Europe and 48th in the world. This first time he competed, he achieved the best mark for Portugal in eight editions of the ranking and even reached the top 10 worldwide in the “Education for sustainability” category. The country is also represented in the general list this year by the University of Aveiro (413th place) and by the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém (539th), among 616 institutions from 74 countries. The podium includes the universities of Wageningen (Netherlands), Nottingham (United Kingdom) and California Davis (USA). There are five British academies in the top 10.
